I started artflaw [art + law] as a third year law student in November 2005. With a background in humanities and an affinity for modern art, I was drawn to the interplay of the law and creative arts. While studying law, I was fortunate to work as an intern with California Lawyers for the Arts, an experience that afforded me direct contact with artists and legal issues that surround their work.

Following law school, I moved to San Francisco and worked as a solo attorney providing legal services to emerging and early-stage companies. Clients varied from SaaS/Web developers, social media and blog networks to brick and mortar enterprises like publishers and fashion designers.

The site, originally located at artlawblog (dot) blogspot (dot) com, generally examined intellectual property issues surrounding visual art. artflaw has since broadened its scope to include music, film, fashion, literature and the emerging legal issues facing each creative medium. I also hope to include more original content/commentary in the coming months. If possible, I will also use less run-on sentences and comma splices.

artflaw.com is powered by WordPress. The site was built using the Empty Canvas theme – a ‘blank’ WordPress developer theme.   While I typically use a local install of WordPress to make edits, I periodically make real-time tweaks resulting in bizarre layout quirks/errors – apologies. The artflaw logo uses BIN Bold by Stefanie Koerner at pheist.net.

I welcome feedback. If you have a tip, comment or suggestion – feel free to use the Contact page to send a note. Also consider following artflaw on Twitter, via email or RSS.
